How the Memory of State Violence is Preserved and Why It Matters Today
In the late 1980s, the "Memorial" movement emerged as an attempt to preserve the memory of victims of state terror and to investigate the history of repressions. Very soon, it became much more: a community of people documenting state crimes, protecting human rights, and re-articulating what had remained unsaid for too long.
Today, after the liquidation of "International Memorial" in Russia, this work continues in the format of the International Association "Memorial".
