The Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences (FLAS) has officially begun the academic year 2025-2026. As the pioneering licenced and accredited liberal arts institution in the Western Balkans, FLAS introduces innovative, interdisciplinary education to Montenegro.

The opening ceremony gathered faculty, students, and guests to celebrate the start of the new academic year. Welcoming remarks were given by Vladimir Shmelev, co-founder of FLAS, head of the Adriatic School network, founder of the Edumonte educational company, and co-founder of the Pristanište Refugee Charity Foundation. He highlighted FLAS's mission to nurture creative and critical thinking.

"We must invest in human energy. Really, I deeply believe that this educational model is unique and suited to help young people navigate in the rapidly changing world, to think about things critically, to act creatively, and to remain human in the deepest sense of this word," said Vladimir Shmelev

Professor Kirill Titaev, FLAS professor of social sciences and expert on the Russian law enforcement system, shared the academic vision of the faculty. Executive Director Alexander Zaritsky reflected on the topic of what "being a student" means to him. The speeches concluded with second-year student Miron Beliaev, who shared his personal impressions of studying at FLAS.

Guests from the partner institution University of Donja Gorica (UDG) included Rector Prof. Dr. Veselin Vukotić; Dean of the Faculty of Sports Management, Dr. Ivan Jovetić; Head of the Office for International Cooperation, Dr. Bojana Mališić; and Business Secretary of the Rector's Collegium, Dr. Marija Radunović. They presented books for the FLAS library as a symbol of ongoing academic collaboration.

A highlight of the event was the student exhibition "What it means to be a student at FLAS," where participants presented their student life experience through three-word descriptions turned into art forms like paintings, photography, embroidery, and mixed media. The event concluded with tours of the exhibition, photos in a dedicated zone, and a festive reception.
