Answering questions about FLAS Discovery

{education}
We would like to remind you that enrollment is open for the FLAS Discovery spring program. The program lasts 10 weeks, from March 2 to May 10. FLAS Discovery is a preparatory program for applicants planning to enroll in a Liberal Arts and Sciences bachelor’s program in Montenegro.

What is FLAS Discovery?

FLAS Discovery is a program for applicants who want to prepare for undergraduate studies within the Liberal Arts and Sciences model in Montenegro. It offers the opportunity to build an individual educational pathway, choose courses that match personal interests, and receive support from a tutor.

It is an excellent starting point for those who want to better understand the educational model before beginning a bachelor’s program in Montenegro.

What level of education is required to join the program?

FLAS Discovery is designed as preparation for a bachelor’s degree and does not require completed secondary education. It is available even to those who are still finishing school and planning to apply in the future.
However, admission to the FLAS bachelor’s program does require a secondary education certificate, regardless of the country (for example, a school-leaving certificate, diploma, or equivalent; the Unified State Exam is not required).

Can I study if my English level is not high?

Yes. The English course included in the FLAS Discovery program will help improve your language proficiency and prepare you for admission to the bachelor’s program. The course is suitable for students with different levels of English.

How will the program help me prepare for a bachelor’s degree?

FLAS Discovery provides applicants with a strong foundation and confidence for a successful start to their studies. It helps you gain a deeper understanding of the Liberal Arts and Sciences model, develop critical thinking, improve information-handling skills, and strengthen your English proficiency — all of which are essential for successful admission and study at the undergraduate level.

What advantages does participation in the program offer?

Participation offers not only academic knowledge and experience of interacting with instructors and fellow students. If you successfully pass the final test, you will be exempt from the interview and the English entrance test when applying to the FLAS bachelor’s program.

This significantly simplifies the admission process and speeds up your integration into the program, as your level of English will already be recognized as sufficient for study.

Which required courses are included in the program?

FLAS Discovery includes two required courses:

  • The Contemporary Balkans: Everyday Culture — a course introducing key aspects of life in the region, including politics, economics, art, cinema, and traditional ways of life.
  • English Language — a course aimed at improving language proficiency and preparing students for undergraduate study at FLAS.

Which courses can you choose within FLAS Discovery?

FLAS Discovery offers a selection of elective courses that will help you explore different fields and shape your individual educational pathway:

  • Creative Writing
  • Family and Money: An Introduction to the Socioeconomics of Households
  • Myth — Fairy Tale — Anecdote: Foundations of Folklore Studies
  • Who Writes, and Why Do They Write? Cultural Conflicts in Texts of Different Periods
